I hate Vienna International Airport

I flew by Air Austrian 0071 on July 8 from Vienna to Toronto. 

At Gate D 29 I was sitting at the passenger area opposite the gate and in front of a Coffee Shop.

I left my reading specs in a Black oblong shaped spectacles case. They are thin wire type gold frame and thick white lenses.

They are expensive and given to me by my wife of 33 years. They are both practical and of sentimental value. I am pretty helpless without them

I remembered after passing through the Gate that I had dropped them on my seat and the Security Guard threw me off when I requested going and retrieving it. 

He said Lost and found goes in a special bag to the city instantly ( I found this all very amusing and he spoke like he was talking to a child!!) and would not allow me out. My travel bag was inside the Gate with a newly found friend at the airport a fellow Canadian. In any case.It was five feet from the Service desk. Just a case of an overzealous Security persons! Not trained for such situations! Plus how to be security conscious and yet helpful! 

Several passengers told me that the Service desk next to D29 was given my specs case and specs inside it by a lady passenger who later met me while boarding. They checked in pass the gate behind me!

First of all this was unfortunate due to my carelessness. The airport is small and cramped in this area and has very uncomfortable seats. 

There no amenities of drinking water fountains. 

There are no recharge stations to plug in laptops cellphones media devices.

There are no lounge chairs for long distance passengers.

Naturally most airport staff do not understand jet lag and discomfort which airports around the world try and minimise!

And rude staff! Everyone stares as if I am from another planet! ( I am Indian and a dignified one well dressed and a Professor with several years of education and lived in five coutries) I had just returned from giving lectures in Zagreb,Frankfurt and India. No one stares like they do in Vienna airport by ground staff! I do not have beard! and dressed american business casual. feel it was the 50s in Europe!

I will writing about this and talking about it as I was unnecessarily stopped from retrieving my specs. 

I was extremely polite and could have turned aggressive but chose not to. If this were in Canada I would not have faced such problems. Even in the Israle/USA (the politist people in the world)when something similar has happened which I have witnessed I saw staff helping to rerieve it.

Now I have been to Vienna and Salzburg with my wife and enjoyed the country hospitality and its people. I would not like to think Austrians are as dififcult as the security guard I had the misfortune to have met. Some years ago i faced some trouble travelling Vienna to Salzburg by being overcharged by OSS train and then received a refund from the American booking company.

I am quite upset at having lost them, knowing that they were just five feet away and was prevented from retreiving it from the Service desk (next to ELAL departure around same time)

I will take this up with the Aviation Ministry in your country, the media Toursim Office as I would not wish to if this is given a routine handling. I write blogs and am on twitter with a large international following of young people and several prominent individuals.

Please retrieve it without too much burueacracy and giving me a run around and courie them letting me know you have done so. I have provided enough information for it.
